BIM Strategy

BIM strategy cut through render BIMx

As a Practice we have been employing 3 Dimensional CAD and other in-house systems, that have become collectively known as Building Information Modeling or BIM, for over 25 years now.

More recently we have invested a great deal of time fine tuning our BIM strategy, redeveloping our CAD standards from the ground up, implementing many of the more recently published BIM Layer Naming and Interoperability Standards. This ensures that we can collaborate seamlessly with all other consultants involved with all of our projects no matter which software platform they employ enabling us to provide a thorough and efficient service.

Since 1989 our main design tool has been Graphisoft ARCHICAD through which we deliver all of our projects in a 3D Virtual Building Environment, placing us at the forefront of 3D CAD design.

More recently we have rolled out the implementation of BIMx across the office with most new major and small projects alike benefiting from this recently developed bolt-on tool.

The project as a whole reaps the benefits of a properly structured design and co-ordination stage now possible through the integration of other consultants’ information within the 3D model, and whilst this can take longer at the design stage, long term cost and time benefits are derived from designing-out discrepancies prior to the commencement of construction.

BIMx allows us to publish all of our project information in a feature rich 3D format. Clients, Contractors and Project Teams are able to view project documentation from a live Virtual Building in addition to the standard .pdf and .dwg formats for electronically issued drawings.

brp architects embrace Hyper Modelling using BimX

Getting a better insight into our building model information by using BimX

The use of live cut-away planes enables design and technical drawings to be explored against the 3D model proving particularly important when establishing a broader project knowledge, especially for those unaccustomed to reading architectural drawings.

Every client and each project is unique and where appropriate, we look to implement a BIM Execution Plan detailing the appropriate level of Building Information Modeling for each project relative and appropriate to project size, complexity and Client need.
