Alan Sankey

Alan Sankey

Alan has been a partner / director of the practice since 2000 and is primarily involved with the management and development of the business.

He has extensive experience across the various architectural sectors and is widely experienced in the design of healthcare and community buildings. Having over twenty years experience in healthcare sector, Alan has been the author of several schemes that have been published in medical journals and has had projects exhibited at the British Medical Association. Similarly a number of projects have also won Civic Trust and RIBA Design Awards.

Alan has lectured and tutored at De Montfort University School of Architecture and has conducted seminars with GP groups and NHS Trusts regarding alternative procurement paths for primary care and the respective role of the Architect.

Other experiences include the design and procurement of large-scale leisure/exhibition facilities, master planning and commercial/office projects, along with new build residential and conversion projects for private and public sector clients.

Alan is Co Founder of brp environmental a Sustainable Design Consultancy stemming from his interest in European Passive Solar Design and time exploring Passive Cooling in the Tropics whilst studying at the University of Singapore. He has written theses on both subjects.

Antony Kavanagh

Antony Kavanagh

Antony is experienced in many areas of architecture in the role of Project Architect and lead consultant, including Healthcare, Residential, Commercial, Leisure, master-planning and conservation.

Since joining the practice in 1994, he has been involved numerous projects across all sectors, a number of which were secured in national competitions. several which have won Design Awards at local, regional and national levels.

He has worked extensively on primary care developments nationwide across all forms of procurement projects range from small GP practices to multi occupancy, large scale primary care centres.

Highly experienced in brief preparation and writing, and healthcare planning, Antony acts as lead for both in-house and consultant teams delivering an extensive workload of primary care projects at various stages from inception to completion along with post-occupancy monitoring and feedback.

In his spare time Antony remains passionate about the arts, occasionally finding time to pursue interest and creativity through oil on canvas and other paint media and has works exhibited. As a year three and five design tutor and mentor of Architecture students at Leicester's DeMontfort University, Antony continues to invest in the future of the profession.

Chris Woods

Chris Woods

With over ten years experience Chris has worked in a variety of development sectors, including Residential, Commercial, Healthcare, Retail, Conservation and Master-Planning, servicing projects across the country.

Since joining brp architects in 2008 Chris's architectural focus has been primarily within the residential sector, demonstrating broad experience in both general-purpose housing as well as specialist residential projects; particularly the delivery of Extra Care, Sheltered Housing and Dementia Care schemes.

Working with both private and social housing developers Chris exercises a strong familiarity with the specific requirements of both RSL's and Local Authorities in relation to the design / planning process, commercial viability, funding arrangements and contract procurement.

In addition to being a qualified Architect, with a combined degree in Architecture and Town & Country Planning, Chris is also a registered EcoHomes Assessor, with a detailed working knowledge of both the Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM assessment criteria.

Outside of the office Chris is an enthusiastic golfer (although the scorecards fail to reflect this!) and he has recently discovered a new-found passion for Non-League football, following the ups and downs of his local side Quorn FC.

Martin Scott

Martin Scott

Martin has over thirty five years of experience in the Construction Industry, the first twenty of which were in London where working as an architectural technician he trained part-time to become an architect.

Whilst in London Martin worked on the detailed design of a number of high profile buildings in the City and West End that included several headquarters for international banking organisations.

Martin moved to Leicestershire in 1979 to head up a team working on a number of BBC projects including new studio facilities across the country and prestigious office developments.

Joining brp in 2004, Martin has brought to bear his experience on many of the larger more complex projects in seeing the projects through to completion once on site, these include the Exec Exhibition Centre at the East of England Show Ground and the award winning redevelopment of Lytham Hospital.

Martin is also a CDM Coordinator and manages the practices' Quality Assurance process.

Outside of the office much of Martin's time is devoted to his family and three children although he has found time to have works exhibited at the City Gallery in Leicester.

Lee Hankins

Lee Hankins

Lee first joined brp architects (then Bundey & Rodgers) in 1999 as a fresh-faced teenager and now has 12 years experience in architectural practice, including nine years with brp over two periods. He has achieved a BA(Hons) and BArch(Hons) degree in Architecture through DeMontfort University.

Lee has experience in a wide range of sectors, including commercial, historic and heritage, renovation, one-off bespoke housing, education, lottery funded community projects and healthcare.

Lee is heavily involved in the development and maintenance of the IT systems within the office and bears the brunt of endless queries form many frustrated CAD users

Lee's most recent 'achievement' is the birth of his daughter. As any new parent knows, fatherhood, paired with study towards a professional qualification, leaves little time for indulging in hobbies!

Michael Erwin

Michael Erwin

Since receiving his Bsc. Hons degree in Architectural Design, Technology & Production Michael has gained 4 years experience based in the sports and leisure sectors, along with education, residential & mixed use, and a smaller amount of conservation work.

Michael's roles and responsibilities have varied as much as his experience with him covering all areas of the profession from research & feasibility, design conception, design development, production information and clerk of works for projects on site.

Michael is the latest addition to the BRP family, joining the company in 2010 and has already been intensely involved in several large supported living and extra care residential projects.

Alongside Michael's achievements within the workplace Michael excelled within his education, demonstrated by him being awarded a 1st Class Honours Degree as well as receiving a C.I.A.T award for his research work.

In his spare time Michael enjoys being a part-time DJ at several of Leicester's eminent venues as well as taking part in charity work. Michael also enjoys entering architectural design competitions.

Michael Erwin

James Garner

James has over ten years experience in the construction industry and since receiving his BSc (Hons) in Architectural Design, Technology & Production, has worked in a variety of sectors including residential, leisure, extra care and education.

In more recent years, James has been responsible for a number of projects including the detailed design of two extra care facilities and the design and project management of a new swimming pool development at a local college.

Since joining brp, James' main focus has been in the residential sector, developing schemes for planning submissions, tender, and building regulations.

James is currently working towards his chartered status within the chartered institute of architectural technologists, something he hopes to achieve within the next year.

Outside of the office, James enjoys spending time with his young family, watching and playing most sports including football and golf and playing the guitar.

Amanda Wheeler

Mandy Wheeler

Having joined brp architects in 2005 initially as an Administration Assistant, Mandy has now progressed to Accounts Manager. Prior to joining brp, Mandy held various Admin/Secretarial positions from being P.A. to a Race Horse Trainer in Scotland, to Offshore Yacht Company and Trust Administration in the Channel Islands, naming just a few.

Following the birth of her son, Mandy embarked upon a course of part-time further education to update her skills and gain further qualifications that included book-keeping and general accounts preparation in order to expand her scope in the 'office environment'.

Being a country living girl, the outdoor life and horses have played a major part in her recreational activities having competed at all levels. Unbeknown to many Mandy is also the proud owner of a relatively successful racehorse (but don't ask about how she became the owner). She also enjoys running, walking her dog and reading.

Simon Bird

Simon Bird

Simon has recently become fully qualified as an Architect whilst working at brp since October 2008. Prior to which worked for three architectural practices and has been involved with all facets of delivering projects from design through to completion on site.

Over recent years he has gained knowledge and experience in general and ecclesiastical conservation, English Heritage / Lottery funded projects commercial and industrial, sports facilities, one off contemporary houses and social and private housing schemes, and healthcare.

He is particularly interested in conservation work having pursued affiliate membership to the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and is now gaining further experience to become a full member. In his spare time he enjoys visiting historic buildings and is an active member of the National Trust.

Simon has a keen interest and innate ability in CAD and mentors colleagues as part of in-house training schemes. A contemporary house extension that Simon was heavily involved with recently won an RIBA East Midlands award.

In his free time he likes going to music festivals and gigs, has a keen interest in Airshows and Military Aircraft. He plays badminton and also enjoys skiing. Just don't ask him about Dr Who!

Nadine Green

Nadine Green

Nadine is our longest serving member of staff having joined the Practice way back in 1986 as receptionist and PA to John Bundey. She currently holds the post of Admin Manager, ensuring the smooth running of the practice's non-project-based, behind the scenes administration and support, and is more often than not the bubbly voice that greets callers on the end of the telephone.

Nadine is our in-house human database and has a knack for being able to recall all sorts of information from historic projects and knows where to find just about everything.

After completing a Business Studies Diploma, before taking up her first post with what was then Bundey & Rodgers, Nadine worked in the insurance claims industry and was also a probate secretary for a firm of Solicitors.

Away from the office, Nadine enjoys cooking and is a Trustee of the local Guide Headquarters. She also enjoys gardening, though prefers to sit back and watch others get to grips with the spades, forks and flowerpots whilst sampling a glass of wine.

Mark Wolverson

Mark Wolverson

With over ten years experience in private practice Mark has worked for small and large scale architects in Leicestershire and the West Midlands, gaining experience in a variety of different aspects including residential, commercial, education, conservation and master planning.

Mark realised that the passion and interests he had within the industry lay in the more technical and construction aspects and so returned to university part time as a mature student to further his education and qualify as an Architectural Technologist.

Since joining brp architects in 2006, Mark originally focussed on the residential sector and has gradually progressed through to healthcare and has overseen the construction of several large scale medical centres and extra care / dementia facilities on site around the country running them through to completion.

Mark's spare time is mainly spent with his family, his two children and Fiancée of seven years, who he is hoping to finally marry within the next year or so. Mark enjoys swimming, watching rugby and spoiling a nice walk by trying to hit a golf ball at the same time.

Michael Walkling

Michael Walkling

Michael has been with the practice since August 2002 after succeeding in his ICT and Design & Technology studies. Michael has developed from an assistant's roll into graphical and cartographic production. Michael's work is particularly concentrated around marketing and graphical presentation.

Michael has been pivotal in steering the practice through the complex world of digital marketing where his graphical presentation skills are put to good use.

Along side web design and development for brp architects he has produced and continues to develop other websites including brp architects' sister company brp environmental, has initiated and maintains blogs for each company and has produced marketing tools and documents to further increase both practices' exposure.

Michael has a range of hobbies and interests namely playing golf (Still trying to live down a hole in one against one of the directors within the first year of picking up a club) and playing bass guitar in a band 'The Uprising' who's recent greatest feat was performing at Glastonbudget festival 2011.

RIBA Chartered Practice
