sustainabilty
brp architects actively encourage a low energy, sustainable approach to reduce the practice’s carbon footprint encouraging walking and cycling to work, the use of public transport where practicable, recycling, control of internal lighting and lowering internal equipment energy consumption and heat gains.
The UK Government White Paper has set a goal to reduce carbon emissions by 20% by the year 2010, with a further goal of 60% by 2050. These targets influence brp’s design criteria in line with the standards set out in the Building Regulations and moreover where exceeded by design codes such as BREEAM and the Code for Sustainable Homes.
brp consider the site and building orientation, building materials, daylight and ventilation design, fabric, insulation and thermal mass and where possible passive environmental solutions all contribute to maintaining controlled internal environments that enhance occupier comfort whilst lowering energy consumption and carbon emissions to mitigate against rising energy fuel costs.
brp believe that through lowering the energy consumption of buildings, the potential to incorporate low and zero carbon renewable energy systems becomes more viable, and enables a holistic approach to emerging planning requirements for a percentage on-site renewable energy generation.
brp are committed to providing low energy buildings and provide in-house expertise to support low energy and sustainable building design.
