Former Victorian school converted into state of the art Medical Centre

A former Victorian primary school built in 1897 has been lovingly restored to its former glory with some contemporary interventions and twists, whilst respecting its Grade II listing after a long period of neglect and falling into a state of disrepair.

The new use that has brought this building back to life is a vibrant medical centre for the doctors and patients of the former Storer Road surgery in Loughborough. The double height central hall has been retained as a dramatic waiting room space. The former classrooms radiating from the central hall have been converted to modern consulting room suites and administration spaces respecting the form and nature of the building and its details.

Previous extensions and temporary classrooms have been removed from the site to make way for a sympathetic external circulation space and a contemporary entrance to the building, again retaining or reflecting many of the historic features of its setting.

Monolithic signage totem for Medical Centre and Pharmacy

A delicate lighting strategy designed to highlight the many preserved architectural features in and around the building. Careful program of repair with a minimal level of intervention has preserved a stunning example of Victorian Architecture for future generations. With many patients being former pupils of the school the development has helped to inspire the local community and has become a catalyst for regeneration in the surrounding area.
